Supporting Us
Water changes lives. For some it is confidence found for the first time. For others it is recovery, belonging, education or a pathway into employment. At PTP, we see every day how safe, structured access to the water supports learning beyond the classroom — building resilience, teamwork, leadership and real-world skills. But opportunities like this do not happen by accident. They exist because a community chooses to protect and invest in them. Today, we are asking you to stand with us and help keep access to water, education and opportunity open for everyone.
Why We Do What We Do
Because water changes people.
We have seen young people arrive at the lake unsure of themselves — quiet, hesitant, uncertain of their direction — and leave months later qualified, confident and stepping into paid roles through our Youth Development Scheme. We have watched teenagers discover leadership in themselves for the first time. We have seen them grow from participants into role models for the next generation.
We have seen volunteers, who give their time to support others across Lewisham, find a place to reset, breathe and feel supported themselves through our free swim initiative. People who spend their weeks helping communities deserve somewhere that gives back to them.
We have watched children overcome fear of water, build trust in their own ability and develop resilience that extends far beyond the lake. The confidence built on the board or in the water does not stay there — it carries into school, into friendships, into life.
We believe everyone deserves that opportunity.
Safe access to water should not depend on background, income, belief or ability. It should not be exclusive. It should be structured, supported and safe — so that people not only access water, but understand it.
Water education and water safety are not optional extras. They are life skills. They build awareness, reduce risk and create confidence that can one day save a life. That is why we are developing a structured, school-based water safety programme launching this autumn. Our aim is for it to be recognised through AQA, embedding meaningful water education into formal learning pathways and giving young people accredited knowledge that stays with them.
This is not simply about running activities.
It is about creating employment pathways for young people.
It is about strengthening communities.
It is about supporting those who support others.
It is about keeping access affordable.
It is about building facilities that serve everyone, not just a few.
Tank and Pia founded PTP on a simple belief: that safe water access should be inclusive, empowering and professionally delivered. That belief has grown into youth development programmes, volunteer support initiatives and long-term investment in accessible facilities.
We care because we see the impact.
We see it in the confidence of a young instructor leading their first session.
We see it in the smile of a volunteer finishing a restorative swim.
We see it in families who find a space where they feel welcome.
And we know this work matters.
With your support, we can continue building opportunity, education and belonging on the water — ensuring that access remains open, safe and inclusive for generations to come.
Together, we keep water accessible.
