What You Need To Know
Sports Guardian is the safety system we use for swimming at PTP Coaching, Beckenham Place Park.
Your personalised wristband tells us who is in the water. If it's ever needed, it also gives access to your medical and emergency information.
It also gives you access to PTP Pre-Pay Passes and Memberships, depending on your Sports Guardian subscription level. Your Sports Guardian profile also records whether you have completed our cold water induction which is mandatory for cold water swimming.

Don't wait for your band to start swimming. Bands are personalised and posted to you, but you can book your swims as soon as you've ordered, and use one of our guest bands until yours arrives.
WHICH OPTION DO I NEED?
BRONZE – FREE
Best for occasional swimmers
Your £19.95 band comes with a free Bronze subscription. Bronze gives you access to PTP Pre-Pay Passes, so you can buy your swims in advance instead of paying each time.
SILVER OR GOLD
Best for regular swimmers
Both Silver and Gold give you access to PTP Monthly and Annual Memberships. The difference is in the extra Sports Guardian features:
Silver – £10 per year
Ideal for individuals and couples. Up to 3 swimmer profiles, a free replacement band every 3 years, and emergency SMS alerts to your contacts.
Gold – £25 per year
Ideal for families. Up to 6 swimmer profiles, a free replacement band every year, and more emergency SMS alerts.
Silver and Gold are Sports Guardian subscription fees. They are separate from the cost of your PTP membership.
You can start on Bronze and upgrade at any time.
WHY DO I NEED A SPORTS GUARDIAN BAND?
Your band isn't just a way to check in. It's designed to speak for you when you can't.
Your band is laser engraved with:

Your unique QR code
In an emergency, the QR code gives access to the further medical and emergency information you've chosen to add to your account.
The band is waterproof, latex-free, made from soft, durable silicone, and adjusts to fit most wrists (5.25–8.25 inches). You can also use it outside PTP: unlock your QR code in the app whenever you swim, run or cycle alone.
Sports Guardian is supported by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) as a strategic partner.
WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
1. Buy your band
Your personalised band costs £19.95 and includes a free Bronze subscription. Choose Silver or Gold at checkout if you want a PTP membership.
2. Start booking straight away
You can book your swims in your account as soon as you've ordered. Use one of our guest bands until your own band arrives.
3. Open the Sports Guardian app
Use the link in your confirmation email to open the app, then add it to your phone's home screen. It's a web app, so you won't find it in the App Store or Google Play.
4. Activate your band
When your band arrives, open the app, tap ""Activate Band" scan the QR code on your band, then fill in your personal, medical and emergency contact details.

Your band can't be used to check in until it's activated and your details are complete. Until then, just use a guest band.
5. Check in AND check out
Scan your band when you arrive and again when you leave.
Always check out. Checking out tells our team you're safely out of the water, and it locks your QR code again.
YOUR MEDICAL INFORMATION
You control what's held in your Sports Guardian account. You can add and update:

Any other medical or safety notes
You can update this information in the app at any time. The app also shows your swim history and the water and air temperatures on the days you swam.
YOUR PRIVACY
Your detailed information isn't available to just anyone who scans your band.

The QR code is locked by default.

It unlocks automatically when you check in at a participating venue and locks again when you check out.

You can also unlock it yourself in the app, for example for a solo swim.
While it's unlocked, anyone with a smartphone can scan it to see the emergency and medical information you've provided. Your key details are also engraved on the band as a backup.
Your data is held by Sports Guardian (The ID Band Company Ltd), not by PTP. PTP staff can only see your details when you are checked in. See the Sports Guardian Privacy Policy.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do I need a Sports Guardian band to swim at PTP?
Yes. Sports Guardian is how we manage swimmer safety and check-in at Beckenham Place Park. You don't need to wait for it to arrive before you swim, though (see below).
Can I swim while I'm waiting for my band to arrive?
Yes. Once you've ordered your band, you can book your swims in your account straight away. Just use one of our guest bands when you arrive until your own band turns up.
I've forgotten my band, or I'm visiting as a guest. What do I do?
Guest bands are available. We'll load your details onto the band when you arrive. Guest bands must be handed in after your swim session. Lost bands will incur a £5 charge.
How do I activate my band?
Watch our short instruction video, which walks you through it. You'll need your band and the link from your confirmation email.
Do I have to pay for the app?
No. The app is free to use.
Do I need to complete my medical information?
Yes. You can't check in with your own band until it's activated and your details are complete.
Can I buy bands for my family?
Yes. You'll need each person's email address and ICE details. Silver covers up to 3 profiles and Gold covers up to 6.
Can I change my information?
Yes, in the app, at any time. If something engraved on your band changes, such as your primary condition or ICE contact, you can order a new band through the app. Silver and Gold include free replacement bands.
What if I lose my band?
Disable the QR code in the app straight away, then order a replacement through the app.
Can I return my band?
Bands are personalised, so they can only be returned if faulty.
How long will my band take to arrive?
Most orders are dispatched the same or next working day, though it can take a couple of days at busy times. UK delivery can take up to 10 working days after dispatch, but you can keep swimming with a guest band in the meantime.
